Hello! I want to lay out some guidelines for commenting on my page. I do moderate all comments, so be aware of this. [May be edited in future]
This blog is not an open public forum. While I don’t intend to do it often, there may be times when I do not approve a comment. Reasons for this might include:
- Inattention to presentation. If your comment hurts my brain or my eyes to read, I will probably just delete it. I might also leave it unapproved and write a blog post about it. What, you ask, would hurt my brain/eyes? Terribly poor spelling, horrible grammar, improper punctuation, all caps, etc.
- Complete ignorance and/or troll-like comments. If you sound like you don’t know what you are talking about, cite someone like Dr. Burzynski, or anything of a similar nature, I might decide not to approve your comment. If you sound like a troll – someone who looked at everything tagged with “abortion,” for example, and then commented anti-choice crap all over every pro-choice blog you found – I won’t approve your comment.
- Hateful language and/or excessive swearing. If you say, “Damn, that sucks,” it’s fine. If you use swear words to refer to different groups, there’s a very good chance I’ll delete your comment, especially if you are referring to an oppressed group.
- I am not a philosopher. I have taken a grand total of two philosophy courses – ethics and intro to philosophy. What this means is that comments full of philosophical mumbo-jumbo terms will probably just irritate me. I don’t write this blog to be irritated, thus irritating comments may disappear, never to be heard from again, much like a character in a children’s book from my childhood after he was eaten by his couch.
I reserve the right to copy your comment in full and post it on my blog. I reserve the right to tear your comments apart on my blog.
All that being said, I like open and honest dialogue. Try to keep it respectful when possible and tolerant when respectful is too difficult. Insulting each other won’t get us anywhere. I haven’t had to delete a comment for any reason yet!
Gee Amanda, you have more rules than God. I still hope you stop by my site though.
“I reserve the right to tear your comments apart on my blog.”
Hmm, maybe not.
I was inspired by another comment policy. I have fewer rules than they do. Also, which god are we talking about?
As for reserving the right to tear comments apart, I simply want people to be aware that if they post something poorly reasoned or insulting I may post about how ridiculous their comment is. I might also pick it apart into little tiny pieces. Most people don’t make such comments.
I haven’t had many comments yet. Yeah, I know what you mean. If I come across any that are too nasty on my site, I think I’ll transfer them over to the Psycho Mail section I have pending. Just in case that happens, which hopefully it won’t.
The god I’m talking about is the one in the Old Testament. I was just kidding about the “more rules”, because actually the OT God had 620 commandments. 🙂
