What I’ve Been Reading: April 11

Ashley Judd responds to the ridiculous discussion of women’s bodies that goes on in US culture, and specifically to people talking about how “puffy” her face looked on a recent appearance. Had no idea she was such a good writer. 🙂

Beautiful photo of steps in Duluth, Minnesota, and hilarious comments. Trust me, these steps have not been “there for centuries.” Maybe a single century, more likely just decades. Also, definitely not on a mountain. On a hill, yes. Mountain? No. Very much no. Still a beautiful photo!

Nevermind the Miley Cyrus part of this, I don’t understand diet fads. While they’re popular the general public seems to have a hard time realizing they are fads.

Choose your own misadventure” about the state of public education in the United States.

Panflation! The inflation of everything. Interesting if only because the author has pulled together a variety of different types of inflation in the world and pointed out what’s wrong with them. Specifically brought up are size inflation, hotel star inflation, and name inflation (hotel rooms once called “standard” are now “deluxe” without anything below “deluxe”).

Tomorrow I will be flying halfway across the country. My travel time is unfortunately very long. Expect either no posts from me, or a post complaining about something.
