Why I Believe in God and Other Revelations

I’ve been struggling with this for a while now. After spending time with so many atheists at college, I realized I’m just not like them.

I thought I was an atheist. Truly I did. It seems silly now, though, because I’m definitely a believer. Not a Christian, I still think that’s silly. I believe in something much more powerful and more sinister. If I believe in any higher power, it has to be more sinister and powerful than the Christian god. With all the horrible stuff in the world, the Christian god just doesn’t make sense. What makes sense is a deity with a profound hatred of humanity and a number of other species on Earth.* What makes sense is a deity who it actually kind of sucks to believe in, but hopefully my faith will protect me from its hatred.

*I think they like mosquitoes, though. And boxelder bugs.

Other Revelations:

I believe in April Fools Day. It happens every year on April 1st. Some people do funny things on this day to mess with other people’s heads. Some people think this is hilarious, others find it horrendous. I’m inclined to agree with the former.

When I was 16, a friend of mine called her boyfriend on April Fools Day and told him she was at the hospital with a broken arm. The reason this wasn’t funny is that she failed to sound even the slightest bit convincing.

I bet you didn’t find that in the slightest bit interesting, but that’s okay. Happy April 1st!

And here I was about to challenge you on these revelations. Not bad, Amanda, not bad.

I’d add roaches in, in addition to mosquitoes. R also has a pet theory that all mid-90s Ford Escort station wagons will survive the apocalypse, so maybe god tools around in one of those on his day off?

I see what you mean. But would such an evil god put so much good in the world at all?

I think if we take out the idea of a god, it all becomes so much clearer. If things “just happen” with no reason, processes such as the big bang and evolution and natural selection make so much more sense.

I think we need to take out a “big because”. If we do find one, you’re right it’ll never be through organized religion.
